I have a feeling the public health concern may be a bit over exaggerated in this story, as the dentist would undoubtedly sterilize the needles between patients, buy why would he even consider reusing needles. To save money?
Any idea why?

yeah, nothing is more messed up than this story right here. I don't get it.
Dude probably went insane, and then one does not need logic to do crazy stuff.

In reading into the story it seems like he was likely drawing up large volumes of medication into syringes, and using them to administer drugs in the IV of multiple patients. Certainly dumb though....

Way back in the day - it was common practice to reuse IV needles. You just made sure to get them sterilized... maybe he's old school?

Not that big of a deal. These probably were luer lock syringes with injections into the IV port on the tubing or bag. These were not syringes that came in direct contact with patient fluids. Not like he gave a block using an aspirating syringe and needle and then saved the needle for the next patient. And technically we all use the same syringe on different patients.... we just use different needles.

omg - this is not as bad as I thought it was when I first read the title. I've never used one of these IV syringes, but from seeing what they do, I would think that it may be okay to reuse these syringes.

When the public hears about it, they'll think he was going in and out of different people's mouths with the same needles.
