We recently had a "discussion" at our school regarding the practice of test review. Last year we were allowed to review exams about a week after we took a test. Recently we have not been allowed to look at exams at all.

I was wondering what the practice at other medical schools is in regards to reviewing exams. Thanks!

We have only had one class so far where we were allowed to review the exam. We have an exam review process for all exams, but it's sort of hard to figure out how that works when you can't review the exam. 🙂 What it really results in is people writing down question on their answer sheets (we get to take a copy of the answer sheet with us to grade our exams when the keys are posted), which imo is worse because that breaches question security more.

DoctorBagel - have you had problems or comments from faculty regarding "question security?"

What you described was essentially our procedure up until the beginning of this semester. But we weren't allowed to have pens or pencils inside the review room.

Us, too -- we could only take a copy of our answer sheet but no pens or pencils to review the test. You know, I haven't heard anything about specific instances of problems with questions leaking, but that's a reason I've heard for why we can't see the tests again. We're also heard from professors that "tests are for evaluative purposes and aren't learning tools." I'm paraphrasing, but that's the gist of the message. 🙂

Hey, I started this thread a while ago to see what the policy was at other schools. http://drslounge.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=331248

My school recently changed its policy so we get minimal feedback on our exams. , so a couple of us went had a mtg with one of the deans to see if they would consider changing it back. I'm not sure how helpful it was, but at least we were proactive about trying to change the policy.
