Revise and Resubmit

What would y'all say the chances are of getting published if you receive a manuscript back asking to revise and resubmit it?

First, congratulations! 'Revise and resubmit' isn't a bad thing. As far as I can tell, that's the verdict on first submission for most articles that are eventually published ("Accepted pending revisions" is pretty rare on a first submission.)

It depends on exactly what the reviewers and editors have said (e.g., if the revisions they suggest are major or minor), but from what I've heard: if you intelligently and satisfactorily address the issues that the reviewers have brought to your attention, your chances of being published eventually are pretty good.

It depends upon the wording of the "revise & resubmit". My understanding is that very few manuscripts are accepted on the initial submission. The ones that are accepted tend to be resubmissions after revisions have been made.

I received a "revise & resubmit" myself a few weeks ago and my professor indicated that it was in no way bad since they did indicate it was being conditionally/provisionally accepted as long as the revisions were made. Dependent upon the type of revisions, you may wish to revise & resubmit or you may wish to withdraw your manuscript and submit elsewhere. Of course, if you submit elsewhere, I would still look at the previous requests for revision and do what you can to better it. Otherwise, you may very well likely get the same responses back from subsequent journals . . . and it tends to be frowned upon to simply submit the exact same manuscript to multiple journals in hopes that you do not have to make any revisions.

Congrats! And g'luck with the revisions.

Chances are pretty good if you make the revisions. I read an article (about 3 years ago, sorry don't have the ref) that found most authors who get a 'revise and resubmit' never actually do anything further, but for the ones who made the suggested revisions the acceptance rate was quite high.
