hey, so I was accepted to a school (not necessarily my top choice) on dec. 3, but i'm still hoping for a couple post-dec interviews. I had planned to get a rhinoplasty in the second week of feb, but I'm worried about this hurting my chances if i'm fortunate enough to receive more interviews (ie. how would adcoms perceive bandages, bruises for a cosmetic surgery?). I didn't want to wait until the summer because I wanted to enjoy the break before starting dental school and be fully healed before school starts. I realize this is kind of a strange question but constructive advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I'm sure your schnoz can wait, unless there's a pertinent medical issue associated with that needs to be addressed within 2 months. The cycle will more or less be over at the end of March/April. That might be a safer time to have it done.

Tell them you fell and broke your nose. I'm going to get one too.

haha, good one! and then they all will be like "awh, you poor thing🙁"!!. The next thing you know: an acceptance offer

The has to be the 2nd silliest post ive ever seen

A chance me thread: This one kid that had a 3.8 gap with a 25 on the DAT asking what his chances of gaining admission were
But that's so typical of SDN though lol. Neurotic fiends with stellar stats lol.

Have an OMFS w/ plastic surgery fellowship do the rhinoplasty and make that into an interesting conversation starter at the interview. I'm kidding.

I would really wait to have the surgery. Having a big bandage on your nose will be very distracting during your interview.

This has it for me: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=811533

Its a classic SN1/rootz90/yolo/i am not sure all of his names, but the kid that was obsessed with CC's in general.

Actually if you ever get bored in class just search all threads started by SN1. They are quite good.

Dude, i forgot about SN1... there were so many gems of threads. Thanks for sharing that one!

A personal favorite of mine is this one: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=858766

Basically... This girl goes to Med School interview... gets drunk and ends up kissing an M2 she stayed with. The OP's story is awesome to begin with. But then this iceman character comes in and starts calling her a slut. By page 4 an all out homosexuality debate breaks out...

I'd say if you could wait, you should try. You don't want the interview turning into a question about your nose...or you might, I don't know.

Personally, I don't see it as that big of a deal. My only thing is, I try not to show any physical signs of health "issues"--even though this will most probably be okay/fixed soon enough. I once had an Adcom member tell me to not bring up health stuff, because schools want to assume that you'll be healthy enough to be there for 4 years. I might be over-stretching the point, but I just wanted to tell you what I know. Otherwise really, I don't see a big problem. As long as the bandage is small and the bruises are minimal (if you're a girl, you probably know how to cover it up with makeup well, and if you're a boy, get someone to cover it up for you a bit).

Makeup can do wonders, hah.

Best of luck (on the interview and surgery)!

:wtf:

🤣

Where do you find this stuff? This is hilarious!

OP I don't know what your experience will be, but my good friend had a nose job and for her you could barely tell she had anything done 2 weeks post-surgery. Sure, she wasn't playing contact sports at that point, but if you didn't know her and didn't know she had the rhinoplasty, you would have never guessed that anything was even a little bit swollen. So I guess what I'm saying is that it depends on how quickly you heal up, but you are potentially okay.

Would I risk it? Probably no. I'd rather get it done over the summer or something, tbh. Then again, I heal slowly.

I got a facelift a week before my first interview. I think it worked because I'm forced to smile now whether I want to or not.
