I'm as US MS3 with decent step scores (230s) and grades. I've heard that psych interviews can be early (as early as Nov) and a lot require step 2 to interview, so I was a little concerned.

1) Can I take Step 2 as late as August (or even Sept) to still get an interview? My scores may not be out by the time they start looking at applications, but I will have completed it. I don't know if that counts also.

2)When should I have recommendation letters turned in by? I may get one in late September, but I don't know if that's too late to have them reviewed by the interview committee.

The answer to both is "As soon as you can".
We'll extend interviews based on Step I--but we want to see the Step II before we rank you. We've also been know to keep people "on hold" while we wait to see what the letters are like.

Programs in psych with your above average step1 scores, decent grades, and AMG status are not going to hold up your interview because you're taking it in August or September. That's ridiculous.

You do probably want to have a step2 score in before programs need to submit a rank list, but you can take it in December and still be in time for this.

Same thing for recommendation letters...you're an amg with solid scores. You are running the show here with the vast majority of programs in psychiatry.
