Hi guys,
I will be applying for dental school for the second time this year. My overall GPA is 3.2 and science is 3.22.

My DAT scores are
AA:21
PA:20
QR:25
RC:21
BIO:19
GC:21
OC:18
TS:19

To improve my application, I have decided to retake my DATs because I dont understand how I only got a 19 on Bio and 19 on OC. I feel I can get at least 20 in both categories. Anyways, besides improving my DAT scores. How else could I improve my application?

I am thinking about taking a full semester's worth of classes in the fall in SF state university to improve my GPA.
However, this is expensive ($5000 to boost GPA) and it does not come with any degree.
Should I be thinking about doing a master's program? (I would have to apply by dec for the spring class)
I know I want to be dentist, are there other ways to get closer to my goal that your know of or have heard it from ur friends?

There no easy way out man. Your Dee ats are fine man don't bother retaking. However, your problem is your low GPA. Just focus on bringing that up to atleast a 3.3+ and apply to 10+ schools and I think you'll have a decent shot.

I am so sorry to hear your story. I think this year is your year. I think your stats are perfect just add some volunteering and shadowing hours and get strong recommendations from a dentist, school committee and science profs. Then make sure you do your research on different schools and what their average DAT and GPAs are to ensure you have a good chance. Good luck

Yeah, I really don't think it's your numbers. Did you apply really early last year? I had a 3.04 sGPA and a 22AA with plenty of EC's, and I got into 3 schools, but I applied to 23, how many did you apply to?

I think your DAT's are great, and if you look at some of the data that Dr. ToothAche has, data shows that the majority of the time people don't improve on their second testing if they already had halfway decent scores.

Maybe work on building your connections to get awesome LOR's, or get more shadowing experience.

Also, some schools really take the PS seriously, so maybe consider taking another look at that.

i just called and found out that waitlisted2009 actually is on the waitlist at usc, but you are 3rd in line to be accepted, so basically as soon as 3 more people withdraw their acceptance your in. congratulations waitlisted2009, you earned it.

To answer the posted question, I went to UC Berkeley for undergrad.
Seriously guys, keep hope alive. I feel so lucky that I got this year, as you guys can tell my GPA and DAT scores are not all that great. There is still hope for USC this year.
