How many of you are like me....on a waitlist(s), yet still trying to get your app in order in case worse comes to worse and you have to reapply? I don't know how much longer I should wait to hear back from a school I'm waitlisted at. Obviously I don't want to wait TOO long and apply late in the summer, but on the same hand I don't want to apply too early and maybe needlessly spend all that money on app fees. What do you guys think?

I'm kind of in the same boat as you, waitlisted at one school which happens to be my top-choice school. However, I'm going to apply again, but early this time, last year I applied late in October and I believe that had significant contribution to my oh so many rejections. But the good thing for me is that I qualified for the FAP program which pretty much gives me 10 free allo schools and 3 free osteo schools and a discount on the MCAT. If you're poor you can qualify for fee waivers too. Also, I think it's worth spending the money if you know you have improved since the last time you applied. Better that than wasting a whole another year because you applied late in the game, right?

i'm on 3 waitlists at the moment, one of which i know i am toward the bottom of so perhaps two realistically. and unfortunately, both of these schools seem to be having less movement than normal. i've already submit amcas again, as much as it sucks. i want to be prepared, and i am trying not to get my hopes up about the waitlists anymore since it is getting a bit late now. big ouch! oh well...

I was in the same boat last year, and I submitted my application at the end of June. I ended up not getting in off the waitlist, and I am so glad I submitted early. Even if I had gotten in at the last minute, you probably won't get secondaries, so the cost is for the AMCAS, and if you do get in this year, you'll be so excited, you probably won't be too bitter about the extra $$ spent. My recommendation to everyone is to just resubmit even though it sucks - it will be worth it to get the thing in 2 months before you might if you wait until you have a solid answer from your waitlists.

To answer the OP's question, it depends why you think you didn't get in to begin with. If it was just a timing issue, probably better to reapply sooner this year than later. If other things could use improvement, if I were you (and I have been there) I would take a year off to give myself the best shot at med school before spending all that cash on reapplying. Send me a PM if you have ?'s.

good luck 🙂
