So we're taking a MVC trauma the other night and the patient is combative and sats are unimpressive. He gets sedated and then the ER resident goes to work trying to intubate him. After he mucks around for awhile I announce "93% and dropping." Meanwhile, the senior anesthesia resident is watching calmly, quietly with arms crossed in the corner. The CA-1 is looking over ER resident's left shoulder at the view. "85%." One last bit of guidance from the ER attending...one last attempt by the ER resident. "79%." The ER attending looks at the Senior Anesthesiologis, who calmly nods in the direction of the CA-1...the CA-1 picks up the tools of the trade, announces "I have a grade II view," and 6-9 seconds later the tube is taped to the patient's face and sats are rising.
It brought a tear to the eye. Nothing like being a rock star with a huge friggin' audience!
So motivating
