I'm really torn between Dartmouth and Brown.

Objectively, Brown has better facilities (Butler, Bradley, etc), more research funding, higher patient volume, etc. I really think I'd get excellent training there. Also, I thought the quality of the residents was awesome - many are AOA, lots of multiple pubs, on my interview day I really felt like they'd make great colleagues.

Dartmouth is a strong draw because I like rural living, and love the outdoors. The facilities were very nice, but not as diverse as Brown's. Although they do spend 2 months at the state hospital 2nd eyar, first year is mostly at the non-locked Dartmouth units. Obviously, it's a smaller program. I liked the residents I met, but I'm not sure they were as "intellectual" (which is good) as the residents at Brown. Dartmouth has all the fellowships I'm interested in, so I'm not sure I'd be passing on much there.

My gut says "Dartmouth", but my brain says "Brown." It's a tough call.

Would I be crazy to pass up possibly "better training" at Brown to live the good life in the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont?

Always, always, always go with your gut.

It sounds like this dilemma could also be reframed as "I'm going to be satisfied with either of my top 2". So go with your gut and leave the rest to the Almighty Match.
