Hi All,
I am having a hard time with deciding between my 1 and 2 for my ROL. One program is a community program at a nationally recognized hospital. The residents seem strong and go on to do good things. The residents are very cool. Their didactics are average and the patient load is strong and diverse in pathology. They have a 100 bed free standing psych hospital. No fellowships. Night float with about 3 calls/month. Only 1 month of inpatient medicine floors.

The other program is a world renowned university program. Lots of reserach, emphaisis on education. It is larger (12 v 6 residents). Didactics are stronger. Fewer beds more tertiary cases. Has all psych fellowships. Reputation is great. They do 4 medicine call months, Q4 overnight no night float. Much more demanding. Pathology likely not as diverse as community program. Both are in the same area (30 mins away from each other).

I am not sure what I want to do (likely fellowship) What do you think?
THANKS

Detroitdoc, you didn't make clear what your gut feelings about U. Michigan are. I wouldn't want to advise you to choose a program if you didn't feel comfortable with the folks there, but all things being equal, in your shoes I would pick U. Mich over Henry Ford. We get such a skimpy, slanted view of these progrms when we interview; you can't bank on much of what you take away from them. Reputation, fellowship options, the connectections of the faculty-- these are the few things we can be sure of. Let's face it, the name U. Mich will take you farther when you apply for a fellowship in four years, particularly if you apply in another part of the country. So if you are on the fence, maybe you'd best err on the safe side.

Anyway, best of luck to you. I'm quite anxious about the whole process myself and I feel for you.
