DO schools use rolling admission like MD, so the earlier you apply the better your chances are,

however, i hear a lot of people saying that applying in like august is still pretty good and not too late

my question is, when do you approximately say is the last date that would start effefcting your chances compared to submitting your application on june 1st (when the applicatiosn open)

will a person applying on june 30th have bascially the same advantage as someone applying first date when the cycle opens? is it late july? early august?

It used to be mid-November, but lately apps to DO schools have dropped due to student population demographics.

So I would say mid-February would be the latest for most DO schools. The probable exceptions would be the newest schools (ie, those that haven't graduation a class yet) as they're unknown entities.

What what do you mean by that
does that mean that acceptance rates are at a peak right now?

Applications have been plateauing or falling for most graduate programs. MD has been resilient. But undergrad admissions/graduations have been falling for a while, and the big generational "enrollment cliff" is upon us at the undergrad level.

Everyone wants to be an MD, and with new MD programs AND DO programs opening, the MD admissions bubble will be stressed for many years to come (at some point there will be a long-term decline). That means fewer applications to DO, Caribbean programs, and DPMs.

2025 vs. 2024 AMCAS® Application Cycle Comparisons

We are seeing an increase of 4.5% in American Medical College Application Service® (AMCAS®) applications for the 2025 cycle compared to the same point in the 2024 cycle. We will continue to monitor these numbers in the coming months.

AMCAS Application YearNumber InitiatedNumber Submitted
2025 (*as of Jan. 5, 2025)88,56752,826
2024 (*as of Jan. 7, 2024)83,97850,224
* This data represents point-in-time comparisons. Each date range reflects the same number of days for this information. For example, in AY2024, the opening day for the AMCAS application was May 2, 2023, while the AY2025 opening was May 1, 2024. To provide an accurate count of the number of days, the “as of …” dates demonstrate the difference between when the cycle opened or when transmission started.
