I know we are all aware of the general idea of rolling admissions, but I was wondering if someone could help me out with the details. My main questions is, can acceptances come at any time? I.e. could I get a call from a school tomorrow or the next day because a spot opened up? I have been under the impression that schools generally do their acceptances in waves. Meaning schools would send out the 1'st wave on Dec. 1st, wait for responses by the deadline, and then send out the second wave of acceptances sometime in January.

You're more likely to get a phone call after each committee meeting. Each school is different, but as far as I know, there's one in january, and beyond that depends on the school. Since many of our deposits are due the week of New Year's 2012, schools will then know how full their classes are enough to begin sending out the next wave of January acceptances. So yes, they're in waves although it won't be quite as concrete as the first one (Dec 1) because not all schools will have their 2nd or 3rd/ 4th waves at the same time.
