  1. Dental Student
I recently had a root canal and the drill bit snapped off inside of my tooth. He tried to get it out but couldn't. He said it should be fine but only waiting could tell. He finished doing the root canal as well. This was 3 days ago and if I apply pressure to the tooth it still hurts. I have not had the permanent filling yet either. This is partially my own fault seeing as I know he is a periodontist but for insurance reasons I wasn't left with many choices ( My girlfriend works for the practice). But he also started the root canal without my knowledge when I thought he was just going to do a pulpotomy. Also the bit is past the apex of my rear canal by about 1-3 millimeters. This is tooth #3 I believe, the tooth is a molar on the top left side, 2nd from the back and I've had that wisdom tooth extracted. So my question is should I leave it in there and see what happens or go to an endodontist to have the bit removed and have the root canal re-done? I am missing the one molar in front of it (tooth #4?) so I do not want a 4 piece bridge.

You're a dental student and you don't know tooth numbers? Also, you're not supposed to seek medical advice on here.

"Drill bit snapped off"?

During a root canal performed by a periodontist?

Wait, you didn't realize a pulpotomy was an endodontic procedure?

"Rear canal"?

#4, a molar?

"4-piece bridge"?

You're in a heap of trouble, my friend, but this isn't the place for advice. You're experiencing post-operative symptoms, and you need to contact the dentist who performed the procedure to get everything sorted out (and from the sound of your post, there's plenty of sorting out that needs to be done.)

I'm surprised a periodontist would even have endo files on hand. He probably hasn't done an RCT since dental school. Oh, and they're not called drill bits. Where do you go to school? I think block resection is your only hope.

Aphitis is totally right on this one. You need to consult the dentist who performed your procedure or get a second opinion on your situation. SDN is not the place for medical advice.
