Hey guys! I'm sure you haven't seen me on this part of the forum, but I'm a regular on the optometry forum. I just came here in need of dental health advice.

I've had a couple problems that have become a little bothersome over the past couple of years. It's more odd to me that it's only happening on the top, left side. My top left 2nd premolar and top left 1st molar have some slight root exposure. Thus, it hurts on that side whenever I swoosh my mouth with cold water or bite on cold stuff on that side (and sometimes really sweet stuff like cupcakes). As for my sensitive teeth, I'm also experiencing that ONLY on the occlusal surfaces of my top left teeth, primarily the first molar.

One of my family friends is a hygienist. She did a check up on me and she told me that she didn't see any cavities, but she recommended that I should use a fluoride gel so that the sensitivity/pain can subside.

Also, I forgot to add that I think I'm brushing correctly (gently, in circular motions, and right below the gums). Oh, and I also floss daily if that helps with anything 😛. I blame the root exposure on the spacers I had when I wore braces. My first top premolars were taken out on both sides, so spacers and wires were put to bring my second premolars and canines closer together. Again, that's why I find it weird that it's not happening on my right side!

Does anyone have any advice for this? Any input would greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advance, everyone!

I'm sorry, can I ask why this is a lock-worthy thread? I was just asking for opinions from dental students and/or dentists who MAY know some possible treatments (because I honestly feel that the hygienist was not too sure about it when she told me). This thread is also dental related, is it not?

dental related but this forum is not supposed to be used for seeking medical/dental advice.

probably a better idea to go see your dentist than asking random strangers anyways
