Let's say you have...had a good gpa, and did good on the mcat but gpa is now screwed up because of a recent semester. what to do? give up on the med school, retake the courses or pray that they won't care about the recent semester?

If you want a worthwhile response, I think you're going to have to be just a bit more specific.

First I think more information would really help. Are you a junior? What was your GPA before and how bad was bad. How was your MCAT score? It's too hard to pass judgement and give advice without more information.

Giving up is not an option. Don't forget that, as long as you keep trying, you haven't failed. If your grades went down during only one semester, and there is a legitimate reason for it, then you can just work to correct the problem. When asked, just explain what went wrong, explain the steps you took to correct the problem, and point out your future progress. If you felt burned out or partied too much, consider seeing a therapist so you can address these issues and continue to work toward medical school.

Is medical school what you really want? If not, then you can give up.
