I was nursing a right hip injury and rehabbing it. I was managing and getting around albeit with a slight limp.

Unfortunately I ended up developing mod- severe plantar facscitis in my left foot.

Given that I have to walk a lot as a Hospitalist; do you think it would be in appropriate to ask for a wheel chair?

I can walk short distance no problem but back and forth from ER or back and forth to patient room cause family wants to talk etc. adds up.

I am only 30 and look reasonably fit on the outside, with no "casts" etc. So I am concerned of sticking out like a sore thumb and fielding questions or "pity."

But on the flip side, I feel like, every positive step I make in physical therapy and rehab is being negated when I do my hospitalist shift and irritate the injuries.

This is an ADA issue. If you ask your employer, they will address it in some way at their own expense. Or, you can get anything you want at your own expense.

One of our ICU attendings had knee surgery, and couldn't walk or stand for long periods. Ended up taking a knee walker around during rounds.

It was a bit unusual at first, but it worked.
