Hi All,

I am currently Staff Rph at a moderate volume (~400 scripts/day) 3-Letter store, 30 mins away from home. My store has a drive thru, COVID testing, and no lunch breaks. I am working on average ~39 hours per week. No issues with techs or RXM.

There is an opportunity for me to work as Staff RPh at Kroger, 32 hours per week, without drive thru/COVID testing. This store is less than 10 mins away from home, and has a scheduled 30 min lunch break. Salary would be $7-10k less per year.

I am tempted to make the switch due to being closer to home and working in a less stressful environment. However, I don't know if that would be a wise decision with my student loan debt. It is more work and stressful to work at 3-Letter, but I feel like there is more job security there. If I were to make the switch, it is unlikely that 3-Letter will take me back if I need them in the future.

I currently have $160k in student loans. Should I stick out with 3-Letter for another 4 years to pay off my student loans, or should I switch to Kroger? What are your thoughts? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Why don't people just call CVS a CVS.

Yes. Do it. At some point CVS might buy Kroger pharmacy just like they did with Target, Schnucks, etc but you take your chances. You want more money to pay off your loans, tell them you will help with Covid vaccinations.

I think the idea is that CVS is much more easily searched than some nickname. It seems silly to me personally but it's not a bad idea to do anything you can to be just that much more anonymous I guess?

I also find it funny when new grads say "I received an offer from a national chain". We know it's CVS or Walgreens, just say it.

OP, I've never heard anyone regret leaving CVS for another job.

OP, Kroger is way better than cvs. I have friends working for them but they get paid more than cvs. May be you are in different state. I have also worked for them as tech, I loved it. Pay was better and they treat their employee better than chains for sure.

Pros of Kroger position:
1.) It's not CVS
2.) Shorter commute (10 min vs 30 min)
3.) NO DRIVE THRU
4.) 30 minute lunch breaks

For only 10k less a year? It's a no brainer.

Kroger has a 30 min break? Hmm, where?

CVS literally has a social media team that reads this forum. I know this for a fact. Just type CVS.

I used to work at Kroger. The one I keep in touch with quit because the metrics are like at CVS. He went to an independent and never looked back.

It doesn't matter in the end. Make as much money as you can before the computer AI replaces us all.

Does this position have a pay rate increase?

7 hours less per week should be a $20k decrease in salary unless my math is off.

Will agree with all he said except for AI part.

Didnt know cvs reads this forum. If you work for cvs and you are reading this you should be ashamed of yourself. You have no dignity, no honor and no decency. The company you work for is the most evil and inhumane company i have ever known. There is a special place in hell for people who run cvs.

They keep cutting rph and tech hours, yet hire a social media team to spy on us.

I'm sure Walmart has one too but do they actually do anything? A few months ago a pharmacist literally put PHI on public Facebook post but prob nothing happened

I'm usually a proponent of maximizing income as much as possible, but I think a 7-10k decrease in salary is a small price to pay for a better work environment. That being said I would make sure you really are going to a better place. If so, then assuming you can pay your bills and have 20%+ or more left over to save and invest, then I'd say go for it.

I seriously hope you're joking.

Working less hours a week and making only 7K less means its higher hourly.

Sounds like a win win. Pick up a shift here and there and you'll probably make ab the same.

A company that purposely cuts resources knowing that doing so will jeopardize people’s health and safety isnt evil? A company that does not care about well being of employees while working them like slaves for 12 hours with no bathroom break isnt evil?

Gotta make sure their CEO gets that $36.5 billion salary.

Why? Cvs is a bad guy as far back as I can remember.

You realize that there are places in the world where there are still actual slaves, right?. Many tech companies benefit from forced labor practices that make CVS look like disneyland.

Words like evil are reserved for names like Hitler, not CVS.

Yes, but I think it's given that people are talking about American companies and the conditions that Americans are forced under in above statements..

Yes, I do realize that there are real slaves in the world. Thanks for the reminder. I can use the word evil however I see fit. I never lived in times of hitler so i cant say from personal experience how evil he was. I can say that cvs is evil. I have a strong feeling that some people running cvs will burn in hell.

That's definitely worth it...if you want the extra 7-10K, just pick up extra shifts throughout the year
