...I will be an MS4 in the thick of interview season when the 2006 conference is going on. I've never been but I hope to achieve:
1.) learning about what research is currently going on in the field
2.) Meeting PD's, making contacts/connections
3.) Find programs/people looking for student lackie researchers.

My application is good except for my board scores, I want to use RSNA as an opportunity to find someone or somewhere to do research should I not match.

From the brochure: http://rsna2006.rsna.org/V2006/documents/rsna06_adv-reg-1_v6-4.pdf

it's an entire week but most of the weekday stuff is refresher courses, while I'd probably find those interesting I doubt my school will give me an entire week off my current rotation to hang out in Chicago...

which brings me to my question: when should I arrive in Chicago? From what I can tell I'd be ok coming Friday night, staying till Sunday but what about monday, tuesday, wednesday? What do most med students do?

I already registered for the event so now I just have to figure out how I'm going to get there and where to stay...

Thanks for any advice you have.

There is so much to do! I went last year and had a wonderful time. Before you go, one thing you should know is that this is the world's largest medical meeting. You will be staggered at the number of physicians that come to this meeting. It is held at McCormick Place in Chicago. A very nice conference center. You can walk to the back and will literally be by Lake Michigan. It has a spectacular view.

For the courses, I would recommend the image interpretation session. My favorite case was by William Bradley (the MRI guru). He talked about a metastatic benign leiomyoma. The MR images were amazing. You have to go to the image interpretation session. It is considered the highlight. Last year it was at 4PM on a Sunday. It should be again this year.

Once you arrive there is a huge booklet that gives you all of the presentations that is offered plus refresher courses that are taught by the leaders of each field. If you have a specific interest there are brochures that breakdown all of the events for each subspecialty. For example, I picked up a brochure on Cardiac Imaging, Radiation Oncology, and MRI. It listed all of the planned events for each one.

You can also walk around the poster sessions and read about current research in radiology. This is where I got most of my information about radiology.

One of my favorite part of RSNA is the case of the day. It is by the doorway when you enter the poster session conference rooms. It gives you a clinical case with images and you get to turn in the diagnosis.

Also, you can just walk around in the vendor area and look at the future technology in radiology. Last year, I walked around the Toshiba vendor and learned about the 256 slice CT that is in production.

Don't forget about the night time dinners. Hang around the vendors and they will offer planned events. I was invited to attend a dinner hosted by GE at one of the Italian restaurants on Michigan Avenue. All paid for!!

I had an amazing time. Radiology is the most diverse, cerebral specialty in medicine. Once you visit RSNA you will see this first hand.

Do you think this would be good to go to for a MS3 interested in radiology? Is this something you can put on your resume?

hrmmm

I feel like I should be going to this. I live 10-15 mins south of McCormick Place.

I was told it was also a good way to socialize and stuff like that, which I'm bad at, cause I can be shy.

Hi guys, I'm an MS4 planning on going to RSNA 2006. In fact I live all the way out in California, but I'm still coming out to Chicago because p53 makes it seems very worth it.

However, I won't know anyone or even know how to get around. Even so, I'm just going to take the plunge, plan the best I can, and try to see all the things p53 mentioned and make the most of my time there.

If anyone wants to meet up there and travel in packs so that the other physicians won't attack us loners, feel free to send me a PM.

Like Bevo, I'm a pretty shy guy myself, but the RSNA comes but once a year... right p53? 🙂

I went there last year as an MS3 and I totally think it is a good idea for anyone who is interested in radiology to attend. Even if you never want to do academic radiology, it makes you realize that radiology is a huge field. Medical school prepares you to be an internist and not a radiologist. Thus, it doesn't really show you what's 'out there' as it were for radiologist. RSNA shows you what kinds of things are in your future as a radiologist. It gives you a chance to see the latest cool toys, what's down the pike, etc.. Also, you can meet some interesting residents.

I only wish my school allowed me to stay longer last year.

Hey all, I am planning to attend this year too, if I can. . . I just need to figure out how many days I will be able to miss from rotations. Anyhow, maybe we will see each other there. Thanks for any suggestions as far as what stuff to check out!

🙂

waiting on a friend to find out when he is coming up to chicago. I guess once he decides on what weekend, I'll know if I'm going or not.

but yeah, I'd definatly would be up to meeting whomever

Anyone have recommendations on what hotel to stay at? The easier on the pocket book, the better of course. 😉

most convenient would be the attached hyatt? but its like $250/night I think.

I dunno what else in the downtown area would be cheaper and would also give you easy public transit to mccormick place.

I guess best bet is to look at a place like hotels.com see whats downtown and maybe call up each place and ask them. I dont use public transit much since its not well connected in my area, near Univ of Chicago.

Unless someone else can provide you with more info

Hey all, anybody else definitely going to the conference?

Just wondering if anybody knows the usual attire - this is my first medical meeting.

Alrighty, hope to see some of you there.

😀

I just got my registration material yesterday. So count me in! How many days are people planning to stay? I was thinking of flying into Chicago on Sunday morning and then flying out that same evening. Is that too short to fully appreciate RSNA? Also, I'm gonna wear a suit since I bet most others will too. How do we make connections with other people in the field if we're just medical students? Should we bring along resumes?

nvm...

found school ID. Scanned it and faxed in registration. We'll see if I was too late or not.

I'd prob be able to swing by 1 or 2 afternoons though. Will have to wait to see what my clinic schedule is that week.

Hey guys---is there any free parking/street parking near RSNA this year? I'll have a car w/ me and would prefer not to pay $20/day if I don't have to. Just checking. Thanks : )
