Hey, sorry if this isn't the right place to post this. I'm an applicant from a NY rural background w/ ~1300 population and I'm most interested in pursuing rural medicine. From my research, most schools with a rural focus are state schools. Are there other options for these programs at OOS friendly programs? Would state schools that usually aren't OOS friendly like UWashington or Colorado be worthwhile to apply to? Thanks for the help!

Nope. It they're not OOS friendly, they're not OOS friendly. No rural exception.

Nothing is stopping you from pursuing rural medicine no matter where you go to school. Believe me, under served areas would absolutely LOVE to have you, even if you train at Harvard! 🙂

Schools like Washington and Colorado are very focused on serving their own communities, and not devoting resources to someone from NY who might, potentially, hopefully maybe stay after graduation instead of returning to NY or moving on to bigger and better things. Definitely focus your energy on NY schools and OOS schools that are OOS friendly, and forget about a rural back door into schools that are hostile to OOS.
