Does anyone know of Rush's reputation and med students' experiences studying there? It has a great location in Chicago but I was wondering how well it is respected outside of Chicago as well. Any feedback would be appreciated!

I have heard nothing but positive things regarding Rush both in and out of Chicago. I think that because Rush dosn't report to USNews rankings or release its match list, its highly under-rated. Personally, I think its an excellent school with a TOP notch hospital. And the students LOVE Rush...

thanks for the info!

I just got back from an interview at Rush and my interviewers were very honest about the reputation of the school. they both told me that rush is a middle-tier school. it is a great school but it is not as good as some of the "inner-city" schools (ie., northwestern and uchicago).

I think rush is not ranked as high as the other schools because it is not very active in research. Though, that might change in couple years as the school just opened a new building dedicated to lab research right next to the main campus. Personally, I think rush is an excellent school. students get to rotate through rush medical center and cooks, which are some of the best teaching hospitals in the nation.

I have several friends from high school who went to Rush and they love it there! The hospital network is very extensive, therefore exposing medical students to a very diverse population of people (Chicago in itself is very diverse...)

One of my friend's sisters applied for residency this year from RMC, and she ended up getting interviews at top-notch places like NYU, etc.

NOW if they'd only give me an interview! argh 😡

I am a second year at Rush and i love it here. If you guys have any questions PM me, the countdown to boards has begun, but we do very well in match, and we are by far the happiest, most laid back med school in chicago ( i have friends at all other med schools in chicago)

When I interviewed at Rush the environment seemed great. I loved the students and the faculty that I met with. The only drawback was that they go to class from morning till 5pm. I really hope to get into the school

I love Rush too! 🙂 In the beginning I was totally turned off by the 9-5 thing as well but in reality it's not that bad. At first everyone goes to all the classes but then you figure out which ones you need to go to and which ones you can skip. It will be different for everyone. Also, second year is MUCH better with a lot more free time (or time to study) outside of class. I think Rush is great, everyone here is extremely supportive and eager to help. Good luck!
