Well its official, I hate my school. Im a Biochem/molecular biology major at the Richard Stockton College in New Jersey. Two semesters ago i found out we had an affiliation with Rutgers for direct acceptence into their Pharm D program. Well I went down to career services and admissions and spoke with them, they all told me it was only for entering freshman. Well turns out they were wrong but now it is too late . Anyway, Rutgers is my number one choice for pharmacy school however i hear they barely accept anyone as transfers.

My question is should i base my classes around their pre-reqs even though i barely have a chance to get in or should I pick up stats or like microbiology which many other schools have as pre-reqs. Also does anyone have any idea what it takes to get into Rutgers as a transfer, i have spoke with many who have applied but none which were accepted. Rutgers website doesnt offer much guidance they only say its VERY COMPETITIVE. Damn maybe ill just ace my pcats and hope for the best.

Rutgers also requires stats for their transfer program into the pharmD. They also require other classes like physiology and macro-economics. If you can take as many pre-reqs as you can to fill up for as many schools as you can. Rutgers is hard to get in as a transfer but then again so are every other pharmacy schools for transfer students. Actually rutgers might be a bit easier compared to other schools if you consider that their pre-requirements are not as much as others for example, rutgers only require a semester of labs for your science classes whereas everyother school requires 2 semesters worth. Also, rutgers dont require pcats and they do not have an interview process i believe but that may change i think. Every school is hard as a transfer now a days and each year its gonna get more and more tougher to get in and i know since im in the same boat as you.

I looked heavily into Rutgers too. It may say that they require 1 semester of a lab science, but you have to read a little further- 2 semesters of a lab science will fulfill their A&P requirement, so if you take AP 1&2 at another college, that will fulfill their "1" physiology class ( I think that's what it was called). I thought they're pre-req requirements were the most rigid that I've seen, and I've been looking at other schools in the Northeast. I think if you fulfill those requirements, you would meet just about any other school's pre-reqs. I work with a large group of pharmacists that graduated from Rutgers, they graduated about 5-6 years ago. It is VERY competitive now and I swear it's next to impossible to get accepted as a transfer. I'm not even bothering, I'm applying to other schools. I think that's bull too- we're NJ residents and pay taxes in the state for god's sakes- we should have the advantage of being admitted first. Rutgers just ticks me off.

Yea, I was hoping that being a NJ resident might help out but it probably wont. Ill be graduating with my biochem/mol bio degree but unless i take an insane amount of classes this upcoming year theres no way i will be able to make all of their pre-reqs and graduate on time. My curriculum here is already very stacked. Im guessing rutgers wouldnt even let me know if i got in there until the spring of 2006. And that wouldnt leave me any time to even try to finish the pre-reqs. Damn u rutgers. I guess ill just apply early decision to Maryland. I was hoping to go to Rutgers or USP.

I am also a student at Stockton (sophomore), and I hate it there as well. I am transferring to Rutgers in the fall. The best advice I can give you is to talk to Marc Kollar, the dean of the pharmacy program. He was very helpful, and offered me conditional acceptance into the program if I keep my GPA above a 3.5 next year (I still have one more year of pre-reqs.) If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

Wait im confused. So are u in the rutgers pharmacy program starting this fall yet you still have a year of pre-reqs left? I talked with him few times and he told me that the school was not giving out conditional acceptances anymore due to the heavy competition. He told me flat out that if any student does not have ALL their pre-reqs completed by end of this spring term then their admissions will not be considered.
If you are in the program, what year will you be in?

From reading your post im guessing your just flat our transfering to rutgers into the second year of the 6 year program. Finishing up your prereqs at rutgers and then applying to the pharmacy program from there.... I PM'd ya
