Hi,

I am considering the Rutgers postbac program (University College, New Brunswick). Everything at Rutgers, from my limited experience, seems a little disorganized and fragmented - especially since they are in the process of merging undergrad schools/campuses. Does anyone have any info about or experience with their program? the courses? the people?

Thanks very much!

As an undergrad at Rutgers, I have experience with the pre-med curriculum itself, but not the post-bacc program. The merging of the colleges will have very little effect on the program because essentially you will be taking your pre-med courses and not completing a second bachelor's.

I am not sure where you went to undergrad, but you should be warned that Rutgers is a very large university. You will be sitting in large lecture halls with 200-400 other students in the lower level classes. Even some of the upper division courses have large class sizes (ex: Systems Physiology 300+). Some of the professors here are brilliant, but can't teach for crap. Others are really great and put such an effort into their professorship (PM me and I will give you the good list/bad list for your pre-med classes).

It is essential that you find some good study partners for your classes to do well. It's not that you can't do it on your own, but professors, lecturers, and TAs can only do so much with so many students. Unfortunately in some classes, you are just a student ID number.

Overall, RU has a lot of great opportunities and resources, and you will probably be happy about your decision to come here.

Thanks very much for your advice! I am definitely used to being in large lectures and fighting for classes, so that won't be too much of a shock. I will definitely PM you.

Are there ANY Rutgers postbacs out there? I have some very specific questions about the program/advising and would really appreciate your help!!!

Calling all Rutgers postbacs!!! Are there any of you out there. This is not a good sign. Either the program is so bad that no one is doing it or it has killed all of you.

There has to be someone out there attending or even considering it?!?!

I am stuck in NJ and have no choice but to go to the Rutgers postbac or take classes on my own at Princeton. Not sure what to do...

i am a rutgers post-bacc! who else is out there?

I'll be starting in the fall. Physics I, Orgo I, and Bio I. 👍

edit: JohnnyCat, sent you a PM.

whoa..dont you think thats a little excessive..all those three classes in the Fall...lol

but where are you guys doing the post-bac...New Brunswick or Newark..i have insight on the Newark school and their pre-med classes since i am an undergrad there...😀

I've already taken my other reqs and they don't let you take Orgo I & II the same semester. 😛

AFAIK - the Postbacc program is only offered in New Brunswick. I wish it was in Newark, as I live right next door.

yeah they do have a post bac..not as great as New Brunswick where it is structured you know...so you probably made the better choice

Dr. Chuck,

Are you a post-bacc also? Or an undergrad? I am at the NB campus. Started in the summer.

nah just an undergad...at the NWK campus..will post bacc'er once i grad. in May..🙂

I lived in NJ and did a Post Bacc at Penn while taking some classes at Rutgers Camden (on the way to both Penn and work), because I couldn't afford day classes at Penn and I couldn't finish everything I needed in time with only the night schedule available. I didn't do any formal post bacc, but registering was easy enough.

Hi, I will be starting post-bac at Rutgers new brunswick campus in the fall. Will be taking Chem and Bio. There is linkage program - to Robert wood Johnson and New Jersey Medical school.

I know this is an old thread but I just want to say there are a LOT of postbac students at Rutgers doing their premed requirements for UMDNJ medical schools (NJMS, RWJMS). I have personally met a lof them when my sister was one. One from Brown University (Engineering), another from Georgetown (Law), one from Harvard, etc. You get the picture. There are 3 others I met too but never really spoke to them because I was only a junior at that time.

Its a sweet deal because if you have certain GPA and MCAT.. you are guaranteed an interview at UMDNJ's medical schools.

*BUMP***

Any new information on the Rutgers Post Bacc(Newark and New Brunswick)?
Have current students had any difficulty registering for courses?
How much did it cost (in-state)?
Any difficulty getting a committee letter?
Acceptance rates into med school/what med school?

Are you looking for information between the merger between UMDNJ and Rutgers? There's a few ppl that said great things about that Masters program @WUbear is one I believe @robflanker is another. You can probably reach out to them if anything. I'm trying to get in the Masters program as a pre dent next fall

I just want to ask how good is the Linkage program of Rutgers with Rutgers Medical school. How easy or hard it is to get a 3.6??
