I was wondering if anyone here is a current Rutgers PsyD student, or knows anything about acceptance rates? I am compiling a list of programs to apply to in the winter, and Rutgers is at the top of my list. I have been told that it is among the top PsyD programs in the country, and I also hear that they offer tuition riembursement. This is very rare for PsyD programs...is this true?

I do not know what my chances are of getting in, but am going to try anyways. Does anyone have any advice?

I would love to chat...I just joined the forum and am still not 100 percent on how it works. I sent you a private message...but is there a live chat feature?

Thank you very much! My subject score & GPA is right on...but looks like I need a lot of work on my general GRE score!

I'm also a current student in the clinical Psy.D. program-- As I just completed my 1st year I can say I am loving the program thus far and would be happy to speak with you about it (PM is probably best). I will say that the financial aid is not as fantastic as many believe it to be, though it is certainly cheaper than a freestanding Psy.D. program (due to the combination of PARTIAL - not full - tuition assistance in your first year and obtaining in-state tution rates after that). There are also TAing and research opportunities available to those who actively and persistently seek them out. But the money is certainly not as free-flowing as, say, a Ph.D. program. That said, I do feel that the investment is worth it for me given the caliber of the program, the students, faculty, and amazing clinical experiences I am getting! Hope this helps-- PM me for more specifics!

I agree with all that LeavingProv says about Rutgers PsyD. He has summed it up quite well.

I will be attending Rutgers PsyD program this Fall! If you want, PM me and I would be glad to tell you about the admissions process.

I have heard Baylor is right up there with Rutgers in terms of high-caliber PsyDs. That's all I know about both of them, though!

And Baylor gives full tuition remission and a stipend, as well as a fellowship based on academic achievement scores.

Does any other current Rutgers student mind sharing their thoughts about the program? Or, sharing your stats when you were admitted? This is my first choice program and I know it is very competitive but I am having a hard time getting a picture of just HOW competitive it is.

Thank you!!

I'm not a Rutgers student, but I can make a general recommendation: have you checked the program's website and reviewed the admissions data for their recent cohorts? That might actually give you a more accurate/generalizable view of their competitiveness than any one student's qualifications.

Given its reputation as one of the best Psy.D. programs out there, though, I'd imagine Rutger's is fairly comparable in competitiveness to mid-level university-based Ph.D. programs (as the uber-top-tier university-based Ph.D. programs are on a level all their own).

Acronym, your post made me curious about what why you would suggest that Rutgers would only be comparable to "mid-level university-based Ph.D. programs".

In terms of the competitiveness of admissions, not in terms of anything else, such as the actual quality of the program; if anything else was construed from my post, then I apologize for the lack of clarity.

I would stand by my point, though, that Rutgers is likely equivalent to the average fully-funded, university-based Ph.D. program (which is what I meant by "mid-level", so perhaps my word choice wasn't the greatest) in terms of admissions. As I mentioned in the original post, the uber-top-tier programs (e.g., UCLA) are essentially in a league all their own, at least based on my experiences and what I've heard.

The program itself seems great, although I have no direct experience with it myself.

I was accepted this application cycle. I think acronym's assessment is accurate. If you have any specific questions about their process, PM me.

Any other Rutgers PsyD students (past or present) who could shed some light on the financial aid offered?
