I love the camraderie all us pre-vets are sharing as we play the application game; yet because I only applied to RVC & Dublin (the only schools I could apply to this year), I kinda feel like I've been nailbiting on my own. At this point, I'd think I'd swim across the English Channel just to find out (even if its a no)!

I know that there's more of you Atlantic Bridge applicants out there! Let's pull together, keep each other in the loop and at least help end some of this uncertainty.

At this point, all I can say is that last year's successful applicants recieved their letters about this time in March if they paid extra to have it airmailed; other successful applicants found out in late March. Obviously this can all change if there were more apps, if they are behind, etc.
When I talked to the Atlantic Bridge rep about a month ago, he said they were expecting letters in early April.

Good luck to all us on the journey!

me! I'm waiting for RVC as well

What are the prerequisites for RVC?

Hey guys,
I applied to both Dublin and RVC through Atlantic Bridge, but I haven't heard anything yet.. I'll keep you posted!!

:luck:

How long ago did you guys send off your applications? Did you get a letter/call/email saying it had been recieved, or given a general timeline for hearing back?

Thanks! Just wondering what I have to look forward to 🙂

Hey Vetleigh,
I think the Atlantic Bridget apps were due sometime in November.. They do send an email letting you know that everything has been received (they also let you know if you're application is incomplete and what they still need from you in order to complete it). You just have to email Atlantic Bridge and they'll send you an application. It's easy to get apps done for both VMCAS and Atlantic Bridge since they are due about a month apart. Just keep on your LOR people to get their refs in on time 🙂

haha the apps are the exciting part! The rest is ssstttreeeessssssssssssssssssssful! G'luck, and feel free to ask any more questions about applications!
:luck:

The due date was February 1st; that was the only reason I could apply this year and not next year as I will to American schools (if I don't get in 😕). I submitted mine about a week and a half before the due date and they said first round acceptances should come around the end of March with others coming as late as May...yikes!

On a separate note, its good to see us applicants peering from behind the curtains...good luck to us all!

What are the prerequisites for RVC?

If I remeber off the top of my head, its is a Bachelor Degree from an accredited university, at least a year of upper-level science (bio, chem, physics), a decent GPA and a good amount of hours....and no GRE's are required.

While the prereq's seem pretty lenient, the program is competitive (about 5-7% acceptance rate) so I figure successful applicants bring a solid background to the table

The due date was February 1st..

I just emailed them yesterday and was told they will send me an "application packet for this September enty"....???

Ha! I can easily believe that! Ah well, as shady as this 'faux deadline, rolling admissions' sounds(sounds like something from St George's, no offense to the aspiring vets there) the RVC still seems like a quality school.

Maybe that's why they have different rounds of acceptances...?

I also e-mailed yesterday and was sent an application packet in the mail for this September. Does anybody know why they are still taking apps for this fall? Seems like with such a low acceptance rate (someone posted 5-7%) they would already have enough good applicants to choose from in the first batch of people who applied last fall, or even in Feb. I am sitting on two waitlists right now, so I figured I would give RVC a shot since there is still time!

As it was explained to me by an admissions person at a UK school - these schools like to hold open a certain number of spots for international students (especially since they are trying to or already are AVMA accredited. Plus, we pay them a lot more money than their local applicants in tuition). These spots are slightly difficult to fill b/c while the schools' have excellent programs (UPenn's system was modeled after the Scottish vet schools) many overseas students choose not to go b/c they got in somewhere in the states and don't want to move overseas or they don't want to spend that much on tuition (especially seeing as you are looking at around $250,000 of debt w/ the current exchange rate) and instead opt to re-apply the following year for stateside schools. So, as a result, they do a rolling admissions process where they accept applications and offer placements up until the term begins in September if they have the vacancies. However, as these school are becoming increasingly popular for US and Canada students they may not be doing this for many more years to come...

wow - that was wordy!

Thanks for all the info EqSx83. That helps a lot. I am going to go ahead and apply (and worry about the 250K debt later 😉 ) Is anyboody else out there just now applying to RVC?

I am. And I'm going to bring my dog with me too. That may mean I can't live on campus, but I won't go with out her. I also have 2 cats that I'm planning on bringing to if I get in, but probably not when I first get there. My pets are my family. I won't leave them behind.

hey guys,
anyone heard anything yet??

Nope, and my fingernails have been chewed down to the nub. Maybe Atlantic Bridge is serious about "1st round of letters go out in late March"

Good or bad, I will definitely let you guys know first thing when I hear something

I am waiting to hear back from RVC as well! It is the ONLY school I applied to this year. I am waiting on the rest because of pre-reqs. But If I get in I am going for sure! What an opportunity for travel and to live abroad. Also, the Vet that I work with did some work with the RVC after he got his degree, so he raves about it all the time.

I will let everyone know when I hear something, good or bad!

I am planning on bringing my two dogs if I am accepcted, and a little warning for everyone else who is planning on taking pets, you have to have a few tests done, and a lot of paperwork, its appox. a 6 month process, so get started if you can !
Good luck to all!

Can you tell me where I can get the paper work. I talked to my vet and he has an International Health Certificate, but I don't know if that's the same thing as the third country vet certificate they talk about on line

Anyone hear anything yet?

I received my acceptance for Dublin (still waiting on RVC tho) in the mail on Monday (FedEx). My friend also received her package on Monday as well... hopefully that means good news for the rest of you? For anyone on the waiting list - I'm going to be turning down their offer (my friend is also) b/c I've already accepted a place at Glasgow... so hopefully that will move some people up the list!

I've accepted my offer to the University College Dublin for the fall! So pumped...I love Dublin!!🙂 Any other future UCD vet students out there?

I haven't heard back from RVC either. The people at Atlantic Bridge told me the same thing. I got accepted to St. Matthew's University in Cayman so I'm going there even if I get accepted at RVC. London is too far from Texas. 🙂

I emailed Atlantic Bridge last week, and I was told that RVC is three weeks behind their normal schedule due to a 20% increase in applicants from last year.....Yikes! That would put the letters arriving early next week to possibly the first week of May. Good luck everyone.

I was accepted today to RVC!!!! Received my acceptance via FedEx, which arrived Friday but I wasn't home to sign for it, so I had to wait all weekend! But I'm in!!! I'm going to be a vet!!!!! G'luck guys! The acceptances are on their way!
:luck:

I am so happy for you! I read alot about RVC and they seem to be an excellent school! Several Doctors at the clinic where I work now know very famous Veterinarians who graduated from RVC. Good luck with moving and planning the next stage of your life!

Hi! I got accepted to UCD as well! I am in my Junior year of Pre-Veterinary program. I am seriously concidering going to UCD. Do you know much about the school? Have you been to Ireland before? I just have so many questions because I am not familiar with the country and the education system in Ireland. I will appreciate any new information. Good luck! You sound very happy!

thank you so much! I'm soooo excited! I was starting to lose hope on getting accepted to any schools this year, so it was an amazing surprise! I can't wait to move to London!!
The only thing that I know about UCD is that they aren't AVMA Accredited yet, so that would be my only hesitation. However, getting into vet school is amazing and an opportunity that you can't really turn down if you're passionate about being a vet. Everything happens for a reason, g'luck!
:luck:

Congrats Normed! Let me know if you have any questions about the RVC- I'd be happy to try and help out as much as I can!

I just got my acceptance letter from the RVC today, via fedex!! I am going to accept for sure! I can't wait for all the other acceptances to be posted, we are going to be future classmates!!!!!!

YAY! Congrats! We are classmates! 🙂

I got my acceptance from RVC yesterday. I already accepted at Kansas because I thought getting into RVC was a long shot. Now I am not sure what to do😕 London sounds very exciting. Any suggestions?!

Well first off, Congrats!!

It's a decision that I think you need to make on your own. Although I didn't even wait to hear from other schools, I did have to make the decision to pull out of waitlists and not to finish applications for Guelph. All that I can tell you is that when I thought about being in vet school anywhere other than London, I would be kicking myself thinking that I could be in Europe. I'm only 22, and 5 years in Europe will far from kill me! Yes, it's more expensive, but I have the rest of my life to pay it off. I'm already proud to be an RVC student. I'm getting a different training, a different degree (BVetMet vs DVM), and 5 years living in a country that I may have never gotten to see. Heck, a whole new continent to discover.

Whatever decision you make, it's no longer an "if" or a "when" it's that you're going to be a vet in a matter of 5 years. Congrats! And if we're classmates, I'll see you in September!

(Let us know of your decision so we can get to know eachother if you're going to RVC!)
😀

I undestand what you are feeling... I would start with a list of Pros and Cons for both choices. Then evaluate those factors based on how important each of them is for you.

Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks normed and kvitka. I am still torn between staying here and going to London. I have been in touch with RVC graduates and a professor there. I know the program sounds excellent, I just want to make sure financially it is realistic. I am curious if the financial aid provided supports you through the summer months while doing your EMS? I would have to take out loans to cover every expense, and I am already having the problem with KS not giving out enough aid.

Normed, have you followed up with your financial aid? Does it look like your aid award is going to fit your budget? Also, do you know where you want to live yet? I was thinking College Grove looked the best for the first year. I hope there is still space available if I decide to go!

Hi Doxiepup,

I'm definitely living in College Grove first year. I believe that as international students we are guaranteed a spot in residence, as long as you have the application submitted by sometime in August (? I'd have to double check, but I know it's late).

I've talked to Royal Bank of Canada, and I got a student line of credit for $150 000, so that should get me started. My mom bought me a house 2 years ago and we're selling it and all the profit (looks like around $25 000) will be going to pay off my debt from undergrad... alsooo... my parents are both going to give me $500 a month so that I can attempt to keep a debt load under $200 000, but that may not be realistic. I'm fortunate enough to have financial support from my parents as well as from the bank.

Did you follow up with any of the financial documents they sent you in your acceptance package? In mine, there was an Atlantic Bridge folder with suggestions of where to start looking for financial aid...

I know it's a hard decision, but it'll be amazing 🙂

Lax and Kvitka- congrats on your admission to UCD!

I'm finishing my first year here (home in 4 days!) and just wanted to say welcome 🙂 If you're curious about the status of the AVMA, they will be visiting this September and will (hopefully!) make their final decision then. The program so far is good, the professors are friendly and approachable and there's quite an emphasis on large animal (especially equine) so if that's your interest you're coming to the right place!

Enjoy your summer!

Hey all, I am heading to Dublin to start vet med...was just wondering if anyone else was heading out there in September. Looking to make connections!!
Thanks
