I've narrowed down my choices between RVU(CO) and CCOM.
In all honesty, I would pick CCOM in a heartbeat. I love the location, the curriculum, the people, the campus, everything. CCOM is a much stronger program in my opinion with much more opportunities. The ONLY thing that is holding me back is the cost. CCOM costs at least $25,000 more than RVU per year. I think that is a ridiculous difference and I am not sure if Chicago is worth the difference.
At what point in cost difference does it make a difference in choosing a school?

I'm sorry to break it to you, but the only person who can make this decision is YOU. It's like asking yourself how much dare money would it take for you to do X; everyone has a number. There are a few things you could ask yourself. Could I succeed at one place and not the other? If so, then maybe no amount of money would make the difference. Also consider your current financial situation, what specialties you're interested in. If you really love CCOM that much more than RVU, I'd say go for it, but that's my 2 cents.

RVU.

****cago sucks.
RVU.

The tuition difference + COL in Chicago = Debt above your eyeballs. You'll probably end up with >$400k in debt, which is insane. I don't care what speciality you end up going into, you're going to be paying that off for a LONGGGGGGG time.

Not worth it. I'm a HUGE fan of Chicago as well.

RVU is around Denver, if I'm not mistaken. It ain't Chicago, but you'd still have some exposure to city life.

For most people, RVU would be the right choice.

CCOM if you live nearby or have family close. Otherwise, I'd pick RVU to save $$

It's very close to Denver. I think about 25 minutes southeast.

RVU is a very good school from what I've heard from my uncle who just graduated a few weeks ago, so his opinion is very biased but he's a wise man. Plus you can't beat Colorado. That place is beautiful!

Even with all the better opportunities at CCOM, RVU still has one of the better match lists amongst DO schools and is cheaper.

Don't worry about debt. You can always live like a resident until you die. Or you could go to RVU and one day have money.

I'd choose RVU, cheaper, beautiful area, nice match lists and board scores (even though they are student dependent)

I think it's more like 15k per year difference. Nothing to sneeze at, but still.

Although there really are not more meaningful opportunities at CCOM (what opportunities are you talking about anyway?), based on your post, it seems like you'll regret it if you don't go to CCOM.

I'd agree with this. I have friends at both schools. RVU students do just fine as do those at CCOM. RVU's location is pretty damn nice too. If you like the outdoors at all you can't make a better move.

Go where you will genuinely be happier and you'll be more likely to thrive as a student, which is the most important aspect to think about in the end.

If you are an outdoors person, RVU is the obvious choice; Chicago has nothing compared to the Denver/Parker, Colorado area.

If you are a city person, Denver is AWESOME, but so is Chicago. IMO Chicago is way dirtier than Denver though. But if you are big into sports/music, Chicago will likely be a bit more fun for you.

When it comes down to it, you'll reap what you sow, and I think you should base you're decision off of where you'll be most happy, independent of finances.

Congrats on your success, and best of luck!

I really wouldn't base this decision off of money. The old cliche "you can't buy happiness" is repeated so often for a reason. Go with wherever you'll be happier. I go to CCOM and would be happy to honestly answer any questions you have that might help make the decision easier for you in either direction.

In case anyone cares, I ended up withdrawing my acceptance at CCOM.

My reasons:
1. COST. I did the math over and over and over again. It's a $120,000 difference over 4 years (and that's a conservative estimate). That could be a down payment on a house or an extra couple of years of not paying loans. I am not interested in Plastics or Ortho and $120k is HUGE. I just couldn't do it.
2. The specialty I am interested in is fairly DO friendly and I was surprised to see a few (2) RVU alums in the rosters of some of the programs I was looking at in Chicago.
3. My partner's work requires proximity to an urban city with an international airport which is why CCOM was high on our list but it looks like Denver will also work out fine

Thanks SDN. Appreciate the help.

Good luck at RVU! I will be there on the 30th to visit the campus.
