I applied to Sackler's NY/American program kind of on a whim, and I got an II a week ago or so (scheduled for 9/30).

However, I can't find much info on how this program works exactly. As far as I can tell, there is some agreement with New York State that graduates are considered IS, but Sackler is not LCME accredited, and thus grads are IMGs when applying for residencies. Obviously it's not the same as the Carib diploma mills, but I presume it is still a significant disadvantage, correct?

I am a NY resident, I would like to do my residency in NY or the east coast. Given that, if I end up having to choose between Sackler and a mid level DO program, which should I pick given the ACGME/AOA merger and all?

Any input would be great!

It's my understanding Sackler has better residency placement than American DO schools for NY state. If you don't want to practice in or live in New York forever then you would likely be better off DO.

If you're set on NY then Sackler as an IMG grad isn't on the same level as a carribean school, in a good way.

Nonetheless, you're better off at a US MD school above all.

So basically Sackler is legit if you want to be in New York? Interesting. I assume they have MD/DO like MCAT and GPA averages in that case.

Interesting, so if US MD doesn't pan out and this does, it might be worth serious consideration.

Thanks for the info!!
