Alright, the time for planning is now.

I need your opinions about

What night?
Dinner?
Drinks?

Any overwhelming recommendations? if not, I am going to just pick a place and we shall meet up. We can do dinner before drinks as well.

for drink options:

THere is a very cool bar that has the most amazing drinks and atmosphere, although it is a little pricey.

Or would everyone just rather have a cool, low key, reasonable but really awesome bar?

Speak up now.

also, lets start getting a head count. Tell me who is going to be here.

Count me in.

Just found out today that I get to go... I'll be there for the med student fair which is the 21st, and atleast thru for the chief resident seminar. Haven't got my airline ticket yet so my dates aren't open yet.

But count me in. Cool drinks plus roja plus a nice beefy foughtfyr and you can't go wrong. There'll also probably be atleast another USF resident who will come.

Post some pictures of your night out for the rest of us who can't make it. I keep thinking it would be cool to go back to NYC for SAEM but I think if I abandoned the wife with two little kids for a 4 day jaunt to NYC I'd end up divorced

maybe, but you could pick up a "newer model" while at the conference.

Of note, AAEM is throwing a resident party as well (this is cut and pasted from the AAEM forums):

AAEM Resident Section Party at SAEM!!!!

WHEN: Monday May 23, 2005 8pm

WHERE: Zanzibar
645 9th Avenue at 45th Street
New York NY 10036
212-957-9197

WHAT: Please join the AAEM Resident section for cocktails and appetizers at Zanzibar during the SAEM conference. This will be a fantastic evening to meet other residents and faculty in emergency medicine, learn a little about AAEM and enjoy a hip and trendy NYC lounge. We look forward to seeing you there!

Hi,

I'll get into NY late Friday, so anytime from Saturday onward sounds fine.
Can't wait to go back to the Northeast after 3 years!!

Not sure if I'll attend or not, but I'd prefer close to the meeting headquarters (Hilton, right?) because I'm a small town guy who's afraid of that damn subway system.

fortunately, they have a lot of bright yellow cars that will take you almost anywhere you want to go for a small fee

If you are afraid you can always take a cab. I lived in Greenville too (went to ECU), and to be honest, I think there were more shadier parts there than in NYC! Dont worry, Ill protect you!

Okay people. I need date options.

Monday night is the resident thing so that is out.

So vote:

Sunday
Tuesday
Weds

I will pick a spot.

Sunday is the opening reception and Tuesday is the banquet. Why not do something after the residency fair Saturday or after the EMRA reception on Monday?

Got my airline ticket... fly in Friday night, leave Wednesday evening (from Laguardia).

I have to do the medical student residency fair booth thing for our program (Saturday evening), the chief resident seminar on Tuesday, and plan on being at the AAEM party on Monday... other than that, I'm all roja's.

BTW, where is Zanzibar compared to the Hilton where the conference is?

Q

I think after the Zanzibar event is good. I am goign to pick a place and start an RSVP list.

Okay, here is what we are going to do.

As a NYC resident, we are asked to go to the Resident get together/bar thing on monday night.

The SDN meet, after this on monday night. We will be going here: http://www.worldsbestbars.com/city/new-york/campbell-apartment-new-york.htm

It's the campbell apartment. A great NYC bar. Its in Grand Central Station for those of you non-new yorkers, so you'll get to see a very cool and toursity spot. The bar itself is NOT touristy. It is very cool, with great drinks (albiet this is not a cheap cheap spot, nor a uber-pricey). If you are used to 1.50 drink nights, be prepared. However for NY standards, its pretty normal. The atmosphere is great, with great low key music and a decidedly art-deco decor. You can actually smoke cigars (for those that might) upstairs.

I am thinking we will go there between 9-10pm

Please let me know who is planning on coming. Lets start a formal head count. Also, PM me and I will disperse my cell phone number so people can get in touch with me.
