Would it be safe to make an account on AACOMAS, scroll through an application but not submit it? I'm just trying to get a feel for the application process.

Thanks,

You can make an account and not submit until next cycle. That is what I did. In May, they will give you the option to transfer your old work from this cycle to the new application cycle. You are not considered an applicant until you get verified. No harm in filling things out early.

So you'll still be considered a first time applicant and not a reapp if you do this?

Yes, as long as you don't submit, which would require you to pay, so it's almost impossible to accidentally do. This is a good way to see how the app works, get stuff entered in for less work to do next cycle, etc.

Source: I did this last cycle and it saved me a fair bit of time.

Fair warning: I did this last April just to get an idea of how AACOMAS worked and it resulted in my app taking longer to be verified!

+1 Screwed around with it in April and if you aren't careful it can make things more difficult. Make sure when you start your application next cycle, you elect to "start a new application" not reuse the old one. AACOMAS will assume you are a re applicant. Then you have to contact every medical school and notify them you are not a re applicant.

Not to mention AACOMAS thinks you're a re applicant even if you start a new one and verifies first time applicants faster! Had to call to get that clarified with them and not even 2 hours later my app was verified lol

Interesting...I did the same thing last cycle, but nowhere on my app did it indicate reapplication status. And it took me a week to get verified if I remember correctly. And this was like 9/30, which should have been a really busy time for verification. It must be a case by case basis/software glitch or something.
