Does anyone have a feel for how US veterinary salaries compare with those around the world?

japan is $51k USD for a female vet and $70k USD for a male vet... where tuition alone for a private school is roughly $27k USD for the first year plus $23.5k USD per year for the next 5 years for a total of roughly $145k. this is considered undergrad though. tuition for a public school is apparently about $40k total.

human doctors make like twice that and work about 20 hours less/month!

For the same amount of hours? Or is that figure from a statistic that takes into account the many women that work part time (therefore make half as much) in order to also take care of children (which would make a lot more sense)? Can't believe that...😡

Same amount of hours. 186 hrs/month for men and 187 hrs/month for women!　Japan is still a very chauvinistic place after all. A part of it I think is because women in Japan don't do the working part time thing after they have children. Instead many quit cold turkey once they have kids. So the average age of female vets in japan is more than 6 years younger than male vets, where male vets work at one clinic on average 8 years, and female vets just half that. Perhaps the lower average salary is partly because women tend to quit before they are getting raises and therefore higher and higher salaries? Dunno how much it's due to that, and obviously the 'mom has to stay home' idea in itself is sexist, but that may account for a good chunk of it.

It's weird how progressive they are in some ways but how behind they compared to other industrialized nations in other ways. Woman's rights and animal welfare are both down there. Uber cute pet goods/clothes/accessories on the other hand are up there. Pet owners are like very unaware and ignorant but very willing to spend a ton on their pets and believe that living vicariously through their pet = doing best for them.

It tends to be straight salary here, no production incentives for associates.
