Can anyone comment on whether salaries really fluctuate that much in Anesthesia? You hear a lot about the field being like a 'stock market' but that doesn't make much sense to me when most payouts are fixed by medicare/medicaid/private insurers.

for the practicing anesthesiologist? was there a point in the last 15 years where you were earning ... lets say less than 65% of your current salary (calculating w/o inflation) thanks.
