Saline for injections

Good morning - I know that sterile saline for irrigation is not supposed to be used for injection, but I've been trying to help a student with practice injections who needs practice on a human versus fruit, etc. I have been unable to obtain saline for injection anywhere though. If 0.5 ml was used right after opening a small bottle for irrigation and then the rest immediately discarded, would that be ok?
