So, what are you really trying to do with this thread? If this is in any way a serious topic from someone who has not even attended an optometry school, then please do a week at Salus where you balance early clinical time with classroom obligations and then tell us if it's minute. Not saying it's harder than the other schools, but it's an intensely demanding program (as they all are, certainly). Your post is at the least pointless and the worst offensive. So I guess it fits on SDN.

You singled out one of the schools and made an implication that it is somehow easier or less demanding than the others. If you don't feel that you have done so with your initial post, then re-read it and understand why posters might have taken it that way. You are new to this forum, presumably. "F.U." isn't going to get you anywhere when and if you eventually have substantial questions for this forum. You could have simply said that you didn't mean to offend and then rephrased your question.

First of all, there is no need to take the tone that you did at the end of your post. I didn't make any personal insults to you, but rather I expressed an opinion on the material that you posted. There is a difference, and it is one of respect. You did not ask about credit hours, the structure of the program, how the difference in credit hours might affect your experience at the school, why the school might be organized in such a way, etc. You made a very short statement, and it's not unreasonable to read it as derogatory towards students of the school. If that's not how you intended for your statement to be read, then I am sorry if I was harsh. This forum can actually be very welcoming and helpful for incoming students, but if you're going to make a new topic, you need to consider how it might be interpreted.
To go back to the initial topic, Salus is structured differently for an earlier start to the clinical experience--for better or worse.

Three thoughts:
1. Here is the exact definition of minute from dictionary.com
"of minor importance; insignificant; trifling."
I think that is a pretty negative connotation to generalize to any programs. I didn't go to PCO but it definitely seemed demeaning to imply that their curriculum is less strenuous than any others....especially for students who poured in blood, sweat, and tears to earn their degree.
2. We're actually very much a people-oriented field. You can't go verbally attacking someone just because someone made a statement that was deemed offensive to you either. The 'f u' was extremely uncalled for.
But what do I know, I've only been here since 2008.
3. There's no strict guidelines to assigning credit hours to courses, so we can't really answer your question unless we have knowledge of multiple schools' curricula. You can always call their admissions department to ask "how many hours are students usually in class or studying?" The common answer is "40 hours at the very minimum or the equivalent of a full-time job"
