Is this a good thing to put on AMCAS app? Over 5-6 years I have donated many things including a ton of clothes along with other things I have no use for all totaling in thousands of dollars. I organize and collect everything to be donated. What do you guys think?

I would focus on the organizing and collection, things that require time and effort on your part, rather than your donation of personal items.

If you mean you organize and collect and donate your own stuff then no, it doesn't count, don't list it. If you ran an annual drive in your school or neighborhood, then you could list that.

While it is a nice thing to do...it is not a strong indicator of leadership abilities if it is just donating clothes and stuff. I mean every other year I do the same type of stuff. Rather than throwing out the stuff I dont' wear or don't use I donate it but it is more because I need the space and I have a feeling that is what the people reading that would think of your situation as well.

There's also a taxes incentive that the adcoms may think of.

This would just be silly to write honestly. I donate to tons of different organizations but I don't think it would make sense to write it on an application.

HAHAHAHAHA!! Getting rid of your unwanted junk is hilarious. You should also put that you recycle your cans, floss your teeth, and sometimes fold your laundry. Those are quality ECs.

Philanthropy isn't an extracurricular activity. It's something you want to do. The point of an EC is giving time, not objects.
