I'm a 31 year old, non traditional Nevada resident with a psychology degree from UNLV.

31M; 11 VB, 10 PS, 10 BS

3.81 cGPA 3.76 sGPA

ECs: Volunteering through AED for the past 6 months, volunteering as clerical at a free clinic for 9 months, shadowing a dermatologist for 3 months.

The two shining qualities I have is that I have worked full time as a mental health technician at a children's treatment facility for the duration of my college career and I have 5 years of active service in the Navy.

I have letters coming from the administrative head of the facility (Ph.D), the head physician (MD), the physician I've shadowed (DO), a social worker (masters) and my physics and o-chem professors.

In no alphabetical order, these are the schools I have chosen:

AMCAS Schools

  • Albany Medical College
  • Creighton University School of Medicine
  • Drexel University College of Medicine
  • Meharry Medical College
  • Morehouse School of Medicine
  • Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine
  • SUNY Upstate Medical University
  • The Commonwealth Medical College
  • The University of Miami School of Medicine
  • The University of Oklahoma
  • University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix
  • University of Arkansas College of Medicine
  • University of Louisville School of Medicine
  • University of Nevada School of Medicine
  • University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry
  • West Virginia University School of Medicine
  • Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine

AACOMAS Schools

  • Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine - Bradenton Campus, FL
  • Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine, FL
  • Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine - Nevada, NV

TMDSAS Schools
  • Haven't decided yet if my stats are even high enough to bother

So what do you guys think? Do I get to play doctor or should I work on my burger flipping technique? Thanks in advance.

Are you a Nevada resident? Any ties to Texas?

I think your stats are good. There should be a good bit of interest in you given a good personal statement.

Your choice of schools is a little random to me. What made you pick those schools? Stats? Location?

Thanks, I'm told my personal statement is quite strong. I am a Nevada resident with no ties to Texas. My choices came from a mixture of stats, cost and decent reviews from students. With only one state school I had to apply all over and I tried to choose the ones I'd have a decent shot at. I'd love to go to the east coast as that's where all my family is but the schools I didn't choose were either too damn expensive or my stats were not quite up to par.

have you thought about going back in the Navy to pay for school?

you could apply to Texas schools since it's relatively cheap. I wouldn't really bank on getting an acceptance, but your stats are good for Texas.

Well I have considered the Navy, there are too many downsides IMO. Not too mention the field I am most interested in is adolescent psychiatry and there isn't too much of a demand for that in the Navy. I guess I will apply to the Texas schools, can't hurt right? Thank you, I appreciate your advice.
