The electronic configuration of a particular neutral atom is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p2. What is the number of unpaired electrons in this atom?

answer is 3

there are 2 unpaired electrons an 3 unfilled orbitals from 3p. I just don't see where 3 comes from.

the answer is 2. if they asked for the number of unpaired orbitals, the answer would be 3.

jb!🙂

haha. you are right. looks like they updated it already. I printed out my copy a few weeks ago and it still has C for that problem.
