Question! I've applied to 4 Post Bacc programs - Drexel, Bryn Mawr, Penn, and West Chester. If anyone has completed those programs/is enrolled now, can you please post sample schedules of classes? I don't just want to be taking 2 courses and 2 labs a semester.. I'm used to staying ridiculously busy 🙄

Thanks!

Penn - are you talking Pre-health or Special Sciences? Very diff.

I might be misunderstanding the question. You applied to Bryn Mawr without knowing it's a one-year postbac program?

All the prereqs in one calendar year, assuming you haven't already completed any. Gen Chem I & II in the summer, then Physics, Organic Chemistry and Biology I & II in the fall and spring, respectively.

Maybe I shouldn't have included Bryn Mawr in my inquiry. I'm aware that is a one year program and quite intense... I was hoping for answers about some of the others, but included Bryn Mawr simply because it is one I applied to!

Thank you!

@ Penn - all classes are at night, typically people take two pre-reqs a semester (i.e. Chem I and Physics I in the fall) and then get a job or do other health related things.

Some do the program in one year but not many pick it

Most people in the pre-health at Penn are taking two courses at a time, some are taking the full load for one year as robflanker pointed out. For those of us that are taking the two courses along with the lab components, we are doing other things like volunteering and working. I think that you should be aware that taking two science courses at Penn will keep you pretty, if not very, busy with the studying in order to make it in the program. Many who started with 3 courses cut back to 2. I guess it depends on what background you have, but it would be naive of you to think that taking 2 classes and the labs are not going to keep you busy.

As for Drexel, the pre-health program is very similar to Penn's structure with classes at night and taking 1 to 2 at a time for the sciences. Drexel is geared towards the working population, or at least when I applied/was accepted it seemed to be that way.

Thanks. I'm only speaking from experience of taking one Bio course + lab at my undergraduate University... it was very easy for me, and I scored top of my class with modest amounts of studying. I was also taking 18 additional credits that semester at the same time. I'm just used to being busy, period - whether it's from a mix of working/volunteering and classes or more study-intensive with lighter extra curriculars- I find I'm more productive overall if I'm busy.

This is slightly off topic, but regarding the classes being at night, did you move close to campus so as to minimize the commute? What have some of your colleagues done? I'm currently about 40 mins outside of the city and have a train commute if I am accepted to either program. I don't mind commuting, but am also open to relocating..

Schedule your classes as you please, just ensure you get good grades in them. Being crazy busy and pulling 3.0 in 5 sciences class is not going to help your app....

RE distance from campus: I live in Univ City and a lot of people live here and in Centre City. Some live in NJ and some commute in from the PA-burbs as well. Some classes don't get out until 9.30-10.30pm after labs etc. So if the trains work for you then great - people make it work.
