trying to decide if I should go to San Antonio for AEGD. I heard its one of the top programs in the country. How is the program in general? Anyone have any advice that can help me make a decision. Thanks in advance!

How can you possibly be making this decision now if you don't graduate until 2012??

Call and request to visit the program. If you're referring to the UTHSCSA AEGD, call 210-567-3456 and ask to visit. Faculty are congenial as are residents. I'm biased, see my member name!

Program has grown and been awarded total $3.1 million in 2 federal grants for 2010-2015, previously awarded $1.5 million in 2007-10. Grant will further improve and expand program and add service categories. Last site visits from CODA, no recommendations. Outstanding experience in implants, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthodontics, adding surgical endo microscope, have specialist faculty in Pros, Perio, Endo.

I am currently a first year resident at UTHSCSA AEGD program. This program has been fabulous!! I have placed about 20 implants done at least 12 cases of thirds, done multiple lateral ridge augmentations, done 3 cases with bilateral open sinus lifts and a few closed sinus lifts, along with starting or continuing 3 cases of full mouth rehab. This program is the farthest thing from a 5th year of dental school as you can get. You are expected to know the basics of pre-doc dentrisrty when you arrive and then you are encouraged to expand your clinical skills to a level of confidence. This program is also one of the only that grants you IV moderate sedation certification at the end of one year. There is also an optional 2nd year available for those that want to get even more experience. One of the current 2nd year residents has done well of 200 implants!!! There is a faculty to student ratio of 5:16 everyday. We have a periodontist, endodontist, orthodontist, multiple general denists, IV sedation dentist, and general dentists with years of OMS fellowship.

This is the best program in the USA hands down!!! I would not even consider going anywhere else!!

Will you be taking a 2nd year? Also, how many graduates do they take in? Seems like a popular residency from the talk on here 🙁

Hey,

Am really interested in the program but had some questions about the competitiveness of the program. Could you shed some light on this? Sorry for the personal question. Thanks for posting!
