My brother just got all his admission statuses. He has made it into only San Jose State and UCSC of the schools (just within the UCs) he applied to. San Jose State is a CSU, fairly decent, if anyone hasn't heard of it. So my brother was wondering what the best route to take would be if he intends on going to medical school. Would one of these two be best or would going to a community college and transferring to UCD or another better UC be better?

I would advise against going to SJSU. It isn't that bad of a school, but the weight a CSU degree carries is not worth it. You can look through MDApps to get a feel for previous SJSU applicants if you'd like.

Doing well at a CC and then transferring to a UC, I believe, will be the best choice for your brother.

Agreed, do not go to a CSU. While for most fields they are fairly respected schools, it will hurt your chances for medical school.

Personally I'd pick Santa Cruz over a community college though...

I agree. The caviat though is that your brother should gauge how well of a studyer he is. Going to a CC is riskier because there is a chance that he may not get into a UC.
From a financial standpoint, going to a CC is cheaper too.
