So I will be a Junior in high school in August. I made a post a while back about how my school has us take the PSAT Junior year then the SAT our Senior year, but I was concerned that if I took it my Senior year and didn't like my score I wouldn't have much time to study to take another one, register for another test, and apply early to colleges. I know a few people mentioned just taking it without my school my Junior year. So I've been looking into it. So here's what I've been thinking
Take the PSAT with my school in October (Junior year)
Get my scores late December possibly early January
See what areas I need to work on, study for SAT especially during Christmas break
Take SAT in July
If I don't like my score and think I can do better then just take another SAT test with my school Senior year.
What do you guys think about that?

I'd take the SAT or ACT in the spring, then you can also do the summer one if you don't like results going into your senior year. For example:

I took my ACT in April of junior year. I had my scores back and still had time to register for the June ACT if I so chose. That way, I could have a good score going into college application season, because most schools start accepting them around August or September 1. The next SAT is in October, so I'm certainly glad I didn't wait until then to take it.

I wouldn't rush into taking the SAT super early. Junior year is typically the most academically challenging year of high school, so I would suggest focusing on your school work instead. I studied for the SAT the summer before my senior year and did fine. However, if you take the PSAT this year and find that your score isn't near where you want it to be, then a little bit of studying probably won't hurt. That being said, don't go overboard.
There are 3 different times during senior year that you'll be able to take the SAT. Colleges let you send in scores after deadlines and they'll still consider those scores. Also, taking the test too many times can look bad.

Sorry this is a bit jumbled haha...

Have you considered taking the SAT in october of your junior year? Most juniors at my high school take that rout. If they weren't satisfied with their scores, they usually retake in January or sometime during the spring. (As for me, I retook in June and October of my senior year.)

Are you planning to take the SAT IIs? I know for most people, they take them during May or June, since it's close to the AP exam period (assuming that you'll be taking the tests that you took APs for).

I took my SAT's/ACT's after winter break of Junior year. Then i found out what i needed to work on. Later on, I took them again in the spring. I recommend doing them after winter break so you get past the first half of Junior year and you will be able to take them up to 3 times after that break. If you needed to before senior year.

best plan imo. Early junior year + late junior year, and 1 last one early senior year.

I'm taking the PSAT in October

your school doesn't offer the PSAT during school hours? That's what mines did, so we were able to take both really if we wanted to.
