Im applying next cycle. I know the upenn secondary asks for SAT scores, so i'm assuming a few other places ask for them as well. my SAT's weren't good. aka, if i used them to apply to an ivy league school, theyd laugh. i realize that its not a huge factor for dentschools, but if i have time between now and May 15, and am so inclined to continue what has been the most anti-social 6months of my life, should i retake the SAT and crush it, or just forget about it.

personally, i think it would look pretty stupid if the date i took the SATs is after my DAT test date, and it seems obvious that we all could do way better on the SAT now, compared to when we last took it, so im not even sure the adcom would think its valid. i just want to strengthen the application whererver possible.

Yeah umm don't retake those. I'm not sure why d-schools even want those scores, but I'm willing to bet they don't mean <insert 4 letter word here>.

Don't waste your time. I have never heard of this!

Harvard asks for a copy of your official high school transcript (which should have your SAT/ACT scores).

I am not sure how much Harvard cares about your high school grades, but I am thinking if they have to choose between two applicants with similar stats then they perhaps pick the one with better high school grades. Just my guess. 😀😉🙂

I believe that Anne said that the only reason why they request your high school transcipts is to verify your AP scores. They don't get an official copy of your AP score report, and since each undergrad has a different policy for what AP credit can be counted for what class, it is a way for them to verify your actual score.

As far as the SAT scores go, absolutely do not retake the SAT!

I agree, especially since the SAT has gotten a lot harder now...its out of 2400 points so you proberly won't do any better....

I believe the OP is talking about the SAT...Penn and Harvard looks at SAT scores and he is wondering if retaking the SAT will improve his chances...
Yeah the new SAT is a lot harder...my little brother had to take it and it sucked for him but he still did very well...You need like a 2000 to be competitive now...

Are you sure for every SAT you typed, you didn't mean DAT?

the S and D are pretty close on the keyboard, you know....

if you really meant SAT, why would you take that test again!?
My graduating class was the first class that got to choose between taking the old one and the new one. The new one definitely sucked. My brother had to study for 2 months straight 12 to 14 hours per day to raise his score by 200 points. 👎

Thank god we both got lucky and took the easier one! 😀
But my SAT is so~so....I hope that wasn't the cause of me getting waitlisted to Penn...

I was actually semi-joking with a hint of sarcasm 😛

but you're right...it took my brother about 1-1.5 years to get a 2000 on his SAT. Good God.

I am not sure Anne mentioned this during my visit. I was just lookin at 06-07 ADEA Official Guide and it says "Admission factors include academic achievement in high school and college....." under Harvard's selection factors. So I just assumed they look at more than AP scores. 😀

But since Anne said AP scores are the only reason for the transcript, you are probably correct. Sorry for the misinfo. 😀🙂😉

The schools are looking for how well you take a standardized test b/c a lot of them bank on studies that correlate success on standardized tests (SAT, DAT) with board scores. They want rockin board scores, so they want people who are have history of rockin standardized tests.

I wouldn't be surprised 😀🙂😎
