You guys are always so patient with all of us pre-MS1's! I just had a quick question regarding a textbook. I'm a senior in undergrad and used Berg, Tymoczko, and Stryer's fifth edition Biochemistry book for a course. I'm a little short on funds right now and could definitely use the cash if I were to sell it back, but I don't want to sell it only to have to buy it again in the fall. I know everyone says they never use their undergrad books, but I'm just curious. It was a really good text that I really understood and a few schools do actually use it, even though mine isn't one of them.

So, do I save the book for med school or sell it back for beer money?

Sell it.

The general consensus here is that Lippincott's Biochemistry is all you'll need for med school biochemistry. Use that along with lecture notes.

Yeah I'd say sell it too if you need the cash. I kept my stryer because it is a good book but I haven't used it once. There just isn't time. A good review book is worth way more in med school than an excellent textbook.

Is Lippincott's Biochemistry a good book to have for a Biochemistry (chemistry departement) undergrad course? thanks.

sell it! i still have a voet and voet i need to sell

Sell it. Get Lippincotts.

burn it in effigy.......or sell it back and buy some beer. Or buy some beer and then burn it.....any choice or combo works :horns:

I second the "burning" idea. All things resembling biochem should be destroyed by fire. My 7 inches of biochem syllabus from this year will meet their maker on July 4th. I shall have my comeuppance.

I would say probably not for undergrad. Its directed for med students and step 1 board prep.

So would everyone agree that Voet and Voet is not worth keeping then..?

i was too lazy to buy the required biochem text, and got by on stryer from undergrad. however, stryer definitely spent more time as a door stop than as a useful resource. lippincott is much better.
