okay so i am finishing up my SMP really soon and it just suddenly dawnwed on me that my SMP is useless in the real world.... i knew that going in but seriously has anyone found work with their SMP at least for the glide year.... and what if i dont get in med school....OH lord what a waste!!!!

Well that is just terrible news. Your experience pretty much renders my SMP or "backup" plan useless as well.

Do you mind sharing which SMP you completed, if it was a certificate or Master's degree that you received afterward, and what you studied?

What in the world did you do a SMP for if you felt like your focus in it was a complete waste?? Especially since you say you knew going in that it was a waste of money and time? I hope you at least chose an interesting subject....

The only thing SMP is good for is for improving your chances of getting into medical school. Don't do an SMP banking on gaining any marketable skills or knowledge should med school plans change or fall through. This is why I advocate getting a masters in something other than an SMP. I chose my particular MS program because it would have been marketable in many other fields had I opted not to go to/hadn't gotten into medical school.
