I have been reading some posts where people used Schaum's to supplement some of their biology studying. I was wondering what from Schaum's was especially helpful. I only have two weeks and feel very overwhelmed by the bio section.

i would not buy that....because it was very helpful.....i used it for the plant section but obviously kaplan was enough for that.....i got a 26 on bio and read kaplan three times....

the kaplan blue book is definetly not enough for certain topics like calvin cycle, vertebrate embryology and ecology. I went to barnes and nobles and bought schaums outlines biology second edition and i think this book is great. i recommend it to boost your bio score and its only $16.95, well worth it in my opinion.

Yeah I recently purchased this book, and it seems to correlate pretty well with the biology topics on the DAT; I haven't actually studied from it yet so I can't attest to the quality of the writing but many other people on SDN have also said good things about this book...

yeah kaplan bio is def not enough according to most people.

I went to buy Schaum's bio, chem, or chem.

but i came home with barron's DAT

Schaum has...too much information, i don't know if i can finish reading it in less than 1 year. 😱

Kaplan blue book may not be good enough but Schaum was just too broad i think.

schaums bio is not too much. People even after using schaums often see few questions that havent been covered in schaums on the real DAT. If you have covered upper level advanced science classes you wouldnt think that schaums bio is too broad.
and why would you purchase barrons for DAT prep, that book is full of errors. the only good thing about that book are math and PAT explanations.

what kind of errors are there? explanation or the answer for the practice exam?

i saw Schaum's bio book at barnes n' noble the other day and i gotta say that it's pretty good if you have the time to read and study it in detail. A lot of the material is talked about in detail, maybe a little more than you really need for the DAT. If you have time to study, Schaums is for sure better than kaplan's blue book which of course is better than Barrons' POS book in my opinion

haha funny you should mention the ap bio book cuz i was actually just looking over that today. There are actually some good sections in the AP bio book but again, teh Schaum's book is more detailed and better. If you're looking for the best possible score on the DAT bio, you must go with Schaum's, even if it has tiny little font and hard questions at the end.

It pretty much boils down to how confident you are in your bio (learned from school) and how much time/effort you're willing to put in to study. good luck JOOON

schaums is a waste of money. perhaps the most boring bio book ever and far too much information. kaplan, EK, and reading over sections in campbell that you have problems with will score you a 22+ on bio. these people that worship schaums haven't even taken the DAT yet!!

OH really~? because when i was reading Schaums at the book store, i also thought it has just way too much detailed information, but ppl in this forum r keep saying that the more info is better and then u r saying those ppl didn't e ven take DAT yet 😱

hm....what should i do 😕

its funny you should say that becuz there are people who have used schaums bio and have scored 23's in their bio sections and 25's overall for their AA. so you're saying if it came from their mouth it would be more convincing ok then

btw have you taken the DAT and if so what are your scores please considering you only have like 10 posts so far.i'm assuming you must have scored a perfect 30 on your bio section.
