This question is certainly a little premature since I am just starting my MS1 year in august...however, i was wondering about the scheduling for 3rd year rotations...

Does the student have any control over when he/she does certain rotations? For example, if I know I'm going to have a 4-6 week time period that is very busy (weddings of close relatives and such), is there any way to request a rotation with weekends off? Does such a rotation even exist? ...I realize that I might be dreaming, but figured i'd ask anyways... Thanks alot in advance..

Check your school's policy, but my guess is that you will have some say on how your schedule looks. Even though every school sends their students through the main specialties, some may have time in the 3rd year for electives or things like that. I don't know your situation

At my school, you are allowed to "lock in" one 8 week rotation block if you needed time off for a particular reason. Most people chose to take things, such as Psych or Primary Care during those times since there were were very few weekends (one weekend call day on Psych) of call required.

Otherwise, we listed our rotations in order of preference and waited for the computer match to assign us the sequence in which we were actually assigned to them. Most people got pretty much what they asked for.

That's how we did it. I ended up getting the order I requested. There were only a handful of people in the class who did not get what they wanted.
