Because of some recent health issues, my schedule for the beginning of fourth year was pushed back even more than it already had been after choosing to take Step 1 later following the birth of my twin children. As such, I will not even be able to begin doing away rotations until mid-September. I have two four week rotations scheduled for October and November. I have been trying to schedule a two week rotation for the last two weeks of September without any success. I seem to be running out of options and it seems that many of the visiting electives in VSAS which are specifically advertised as two week rotations are already filled to capacity. I am on a waitlist at two places and have been rejected from two more - all based on lack of available spots.
Does anyone have any experience with places that will allow two week rotations that may not officially advertise their rotations as 2 weeks? Also, does anyone know of places that might not be full or that might not participate in VSAS that would allow a 2 week rotation?
I have already e-mailed and contacted a lot of places in addition to reading insights on the forum. I'm not trying to be lazy in asking for help but also don't want to annoy a bunch of people by e-mailing every school imaginable with a program. Securing this rotation seems very important to at least having another chance at a letter of recommendation. VSAS doesn't really make the process any easier, as it seems I am often applying to places that are probably already full before applying, and then losing the time I could have applied to somewhere else that wasn't in awaiting program responses.
