😕

I have an issue and needed some advice on it. My 4th yr schedule goes something like this : July- take Step 2, August - open, September - open, October - ER, November - Rural(mandatory), December - Rural Elective(mandatory), then Jan - April are open also for any electives. Now here's the thing I have to still finish one of my core rotations and need to do it sometime 4th yr due to some scheduling conflicts. When is a good time to schedule this psych CORE rotation in my 4th year considering I also want to do most of my "hot months"(of which I only have maybe August and September and January free) in Chicago...since thats where I plan to do my residency? Do elective rotation sites out there have conditions set where u have to complete ALL core rotations first before u do an elective at their school? Or does it not matter? So in other words...do I need to set up my psych core in August and then have just September and January to do electives in Chicago(and hopefully interview somewhere during then)? Or is it ok if I just push my psych core towards the end of 4th yr and save August as another month of elective in chicago???? :scared:

I need some real help here...hope someone understands this situation...

Thanks,

$

Do your psych core at the end of your 4th year. Save your early 4th year electives for audition rotations. No one will care if you haven't finished psych at that point. Plus, having psych in the spring of your 4th year will be a nice cush rotation that you will appreciate as senioritis sets in.

I agree...no one cares if you have all your core rotations finished or not, least of all psych. Put it off to the end of 4th year and use those very valuable fall/winter months for electives/sub-i's.

Keep in mind January is kind of late to be doing a sub-i/audition rotation...by then most interview slots are given away. Make the most of the months between August-December.

Make sure with your school that you could take psych at the end of your fourth year. My school required us to take all core clerkships before October so that it would be included in our Dean's letter. So, I had to take psych sometime in August of my fourth year.
