I am doing an IM Sub-I in November....and I just got an interview invite from the program that I will be doing the rotation at. They have dates from Oct to January, and I am not sure if I should schedule this before, after or during the Sub-I?? This is my top choice program, so I want to make sure I time this well. I was thinking maybe sometime during the middle of the rotation...any ideas? Thanks!

My feeling (based on my thoughts, nothing else) would be to schedule it right after your rotation ends. If it's your top choice program, you probably want them to think that you are a hard worker and so taking any time off for it could give them the opposite opinion. I'd do it after instead of before so that you will have met a good number of people in the department that may be interviewing you. You also will know a lot about the inner workings of the program so you have great reasons for why you want to match there.

Schedule it at or near the end of the rotation. Since you will have been there for a month already, you won't need most of the stuff that makes up an interview day (program/city overview, chance to chat with residents, tour, etc) so all you really need is the actual interview. Oftentimes you can take a couple of hours one non-call day and just interview then.

Thanks! I ended up scheduling my IM interview one week before my rotation ends.
