Hi There,

I took the mcats on july 6 2011, and I think I did really bad. Although, i cant be certain of my score, what I am definitely sure about is the fact that I can do better by taking the mcats a second time. Hence, I was thinking of waiting for the results for my july exam which shall be posted around august 9, and then registering for the Mcats offered in first week of september. However, everywhere I have been reading that taking the september mcats is very late, and august 12 would be a better option. But i really wanted to know my past exam scores, hence takign the next mcats in first week of september wuld be a better idea. Can someone guide me as to how the primary application goes with this? Like, if I sent my primary application next week they wont have my MCAT scores, so should I wait till I receive my scores then submit my primary? Also, if I submit my primary after getting my july 6 scores and assuming I got a 25 and although my application would say the next anticipated mcat date would they just reject my application solely on the 25 I received? If someone can really guide me it would be really helpful because I am really confused as of now

A few things:

1) Any MCAT related questions belong in the MCAT thread. I'm sure this will be moved momentarily.

2) You asked about 3 questions that have been beaten to death on SDN, try using the search function on your computer.

Most people think they did poorly after taking the MCAT, and are pleasantly surprised when they receive their scores. If you are really paranoid, you can start studying again now for an August or early September retake, which yes, will probably be on the later side. That being said, if you end up rushing your MCAT retake and do poorly again, then it won't matter if you are early or late, because your MCAT score will get you rejected at any allopathic school you apply to. If you choose to submit your primary application and indicate a new test date, schools should put your application on hold until your next scores come in. Point is, if things didn't go well on the 7/6 MCAT (which by all accounts seemed very challenging to everyone), take your time, buckle down, and make sure you have an MCAT score that is competitive. If not, consider DO school.

Good luck.

thanks for the reply I will definitely use the search function first next time i ask a question.. I guess I will wait till i get my aug scores back and then submit my primary application, just have everything ready by then

Thanks

hi,

I tried searching for this but couldnt find anything so if you can help me it would be really nice of u. I went on the primary application and figured I should just submit hte primary and when the july scores are released the medical schools would receive them. But on the parimary application I am only able to list the july 6 2011 mcat date. I cannot list the other date (the retake date of september 2011). Should I still submit the primary? I mean I am going to retake it in september and I want medical schools to know that, I think the only way I may be able to list the september retake date is once i get my july scores which would allow me to add the september date to the primary app. So let me know thanks so much
