I'm a 2nd year DO student at OSU, currently working on setting up my rotation schedule. I be will applying to allopathic residencies only for a number of reasons. I will be taking step 1 USMLE this June. I have 9 elective months on my schedule but two of those have to be primary care. Primary care includes ER. I also have an interest in ER so I would like to schedule a month of ER during 3rd year to see if I would like to pursue that further. I would also like to set up a month of anesthesia at my school's hospital (where I won't be applying) to "learn the ropes". That leaves me 6 months to schedule audition rotations. Is it okay for all of those to be anesthesia, or would that be looked at as not well rounded? I have the capability of splitting a month twice. Is two weeks at one location significant enough to make a good impression? DO friendly programs that I've looked at include Arizona, Virginia Commonwealth, West Virginia, Kentucky, Texas Southwest, Georgia (Augusta), and OU. I could do 2 weeks at VCU and WVU one month, then slide over to Kentucky for 2 weeks, then to Georgia for the remainder. Then do one month at Texas Southwest and one at OU, my top two choices. I need to work on scheduling 2 required rotations back to March and April. Rotating somewhere would do me no good during match month and the following month. Interviews are normally held during November? As of now, I'm planning on taking November off. I guess I could see who wants to interview me, and then try to schedule a rotation with them between December and March..
Another question: Some programs are 3 year, some are 4 year. You match them all together, correct? If I match to a 3 year then I would just scramble for a traditional rotating internship?
