Hi everyone!
I have questions about possibly getting scholarships to the schools that accept me this cycle. I know that I have no acceptances as of now, but I am just asking to know what to expect.
I would appreciate if you could drop your stats and activities if you got a scholarship (also the school name pls).
Also, if you can, pls leave an insight on my chances to receive a scholarship (potentially from Boston University cause I really like the program)
DAT: 22 AA, 23 TS, 25 PAT, 22 GC, 22 OC, 25 BIO, 23 QR, 18 RC
GPA 3.98, sGPA 4.0

I have a great personal statement (mentioned in interview). Interesting life story as an immigrant who overcame many challenges.
I have 3000+ dental assistant work at multiple offices, 1500+ employment at non-dental jobs.
I have a conference award winning research,
lots of leadership such as being a dental assistant trainer, peer mentor, and tutor.
Diverse volunteering experiences from homeless shelters to cultural clubs.

Just for reference, I’m gonna share the schools I have interviewed at. So maybe you could tell me if I have scholarship chances for any of them:

LECOM
Nova
Maryland
NYU
Rutgers
OHSU
Boston
Touro
Buffalo

Can you determine your mission fit with each of the schools? Do you identify as underrepresented in dentistry? Are you going into a public health direction and a good candidate for HPSP or NHSC?

Did you ask this question during the interview days (or did others)?

I know some schools historically like to couple a merit scholarship with first-round offers to high-stats applicants (NYU being one because they KNOW they're expensive, and they're trying to keep yield up). Others will give merit scholarships to match in-state tuition rates (if you are OOS).

Historically dentistry graduates become successful in paying their loans on time. Of course, with the current debt load, you need to be more savvy about how you pay it back to get forgiveness by the end.

But there are no guarantees. Some schools won't be able to give out huge scholarships until they see proof that you can pass your first-year. There are other scholarships available down the road.

Thanks for your helpful answer. My mission fit with them primarily revolves around commitment to serve the underserved, expand healthcare access for underprivileged, wanting to become a GP, research opportunities, and interest in their high-tech education. Many other small mission fits like Iranian Clubs at their school, peer mentoring programs, etc…
I am Iranian so I think in the U.S. I am considered over represented in dentistry (someone could correct me). I am the first to pursue dentistry in my family and I did write the disadvantaged essay on the AADSAS and had compelling reasons.
Do you think with my background, I could get a scholarship based on stats? I know my DAT stats are not crazy but they are competitive for those schools.
I am planning to apply for the NHSC next year bc I will become a citizen in July 2025. But that is a low chance.

Could you elaborate a bit on loan forgiveness? I don’t have much information about paying off the loan.

you have a chance for a scholarship at all of them
however, there is no way of knowing how big that chance is, even less so than your chances of getting into one or more of those schools
it's best to assume that you won't get a scholarship and be happy IF you get one

🥲true. Thanks

Thank you! What is your opinion about these kind of repayments? What strategy do you think works best? Is the PSLF program reliable? What should I do to qualify for it?
That depends on what you ultimately want to do and where you go to school.

We also love the White Coat Investor.

Really helpful! Thank you.
Sorry, I’m a newbie! What’s the white coat investor? I looked it up and a website showed up but I can’t really understand how it helps with loan repayments.
